Reward Placement Matters!

Reward placement matters! ๐Ÿพ

What is a reward?
๐Ÿพ A reward can be a treat or toy. Anything that your pup wants to work for! When doing certain exercises, it tends to be easier to use food as rewards to keep things a little more controlled.

Different types of hand targets can be SOOOO beneficial for this as well! Teaching a hand touch with their nose, brim of nose and chin, can allow you to do a ton of different exercises. Increasing the duration of the hold, can also make things more challenging for them.

๐ŸพPlacement of the reward.
Where you hold your petโ€™s reward, will determine if you get the correct exercise you are looking for. If you look through all these photos, Rink is trained to use different types of hand targets like talked about above. She receives her reward AFTER she holds those targets. This allows for her to hold the proper position that is desired.

Next time you exercise your pup, think about what part of their body you are trying to work. Are you targeting that area based on where your dog is reaching for the treat? It is your job to make sure. Your pup just wants their reward! ๐Ÿ˜œ

Have fun!!! ๐Ÿพ
