How do I know if my dog’s trainer is the right one for us?
Finding the Right Canine Fitness Instructor for you and your Pet (or any trainer!!)
There are many people that will go out and buy fitness equipment and teach a canine fitness class…but what is your goal? Just because your dog can stand on fancy equipment, does NOT mean it is benefiting them. In fact, they can get severely injured!!
Things to consider:
🐾 What kind of schooling or certifications does your instructor have? Did they do hands on work or just complete an online course that took up to a couple days?
🐾 Can they answer questions about specific injuries and muscles? Do they know exercises to prevent them?
🐾 Do they know how to tell if your pup should go to the vet for an injury that you may not notice?
🐾 Does your instructor do sports or fitness with their own dogs? How do they relate to your situation?
🐾 Are they able to explain what exercises are going to be appropriate for your dogs specific needs?
🐾 Are they willing to disclose any questions you have about equipment, environment or anything that may affect your pet physically and mentally? (How high should my dog be jumping? Is it bad for my dog to jump on certain surfaces or equipment? How old can my dog be to start certain things?)
This goes for ALL dog training. Research before you invest. It will be worth it in the end. Do NOT be afraid to ask questions and advocate for you and your dog. At the end of the day, its about what works best for you and your pup. Nothing else. Enjoy your time together and be safe !
