Dock Diving
This canine sport is so fun and the dogs get such a rush!! 🤩
The unfortunate part about dock diving is that most people think it’s an easy sport on their dog. Many think that since they are just jumping and landing in water that it isn’t too hard on their body. This is NOT true! Just like with any activity you may do with your pup, there are risks!
Types of Injuries:
-Slipping on wet surfaces
-Sprains and strains
-Bloat
-Iliopsoas Injury
- Water intoxication
- Impact injuries - Shoulders and neck
- Swimmer’s tail
Many of the injuries that may occur can be prevented! Keeping a close eye on your dog’s performance levels and working on exercises to prevent injuries, can save you and your dog from a lot of stress down the road.
Some Exercises you can do with your pup to improve their dock diving or help prevent injuries:
Proper sit to stands
Destination jumping
Walking backwards
Cavalettis
Wall stretch
Coming up with a proper warm and cool down can be a crucial part of preventing injuries. Included in this is REST! Take breaks and make sure your pup gets an OFF day to recharge and replenish their bodies. Knowing the signs of fatigue are extremely imortant!
Exercise plans that are geared towards strengthening certain problem areas in the body can be insanely beneficially! Not only will your dog have better stamina and better jumps, but there will be a much lower risk of injury.
For all those that do dock diving, we hope you continue to have a BLAST and stay safe!! 🤩💦🐾
